About KP Reels
The legendary Natal Fisherman Keith Palmer or “KP” as he became known, started producing solid wooden reels commercially in 1956 in Bazley Beach on the KZN South Coast.

KP designed and developed a spoke reel which was moulded in fiberglass and laminated with hardwood. This was available commercialy in 1970. In 1971 his son in law Colin joined him and together they built up the business in Bazley. “KP” retired in 1983 to pursue his passion of fishing full time. He passed away in 2006 at the age of 82.

Colin is still proudly carrying on the tradition of making “KP” reels in Umkomaas on the KZN South Coast South Africa. Our Scarborough reels are moulded from glass re-enforced polyester moulding compound (DMC). Our deluxe reels have hardwood laminate flanges.

All of our reels run on ball bearings except for our far cast range and our bottom reels which have vesconite bushes.
nd our 11 ½” bottom reels which have vesconite bushes and stainless steel shafts.
Our 10” Bottom reels have a choice of bearings or bushes.
Our handles are moulded from glass filled nylon.
All our components are made from non-corrosive metals (Brass and Stainless Steel)
